About me
Jamie Carter is an artist known for her ability to capture nature accurately and romantically on canvas. She has been a professional nature and wildlife artist for more than 40 years. Jamie's work is nationally known with an expansive, widely distributed print collection as well as many licensed products. In addition to her gifted ability to express the heart of nature, she is a sought after teacher for workshops and lessons due to her ability to translate techniques and confidence to curious students.
Jamie grew up in the wooded country-side of Northeast Texas and spent her early years playing along the banks of Pine Creek, a tributary of the Red River. This creek had been the home for the Caddo Indians, and it was not unusual for her to find arrow heads and pottery in the family fields. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, inspiration was always just out the back door. She has remained in the area and never had a desire to live anywhere else.
Her talent was evident early on, and she was offered a job to be a commercial artist for Taylor Publishing company as soon as she graduated from college. Jamie never took that job because she had fallen in love with painting. Oils are her favorite medium, with watercolors not far behind.
Jamie has contracted with multiple publishing companies , and her work has been featured in numerous national art shows and in magazines. Jamie owned and operated The Art Market gallery and frame shop in Paris, Texas for over thirty years. She currently continues her practice from home.
Jamie Carter has been married to her husband John for 49 years and she has two grown married children, Wesley and Melanie Carter, and Melinda and Ryan Watters with grandchildren Ava and Zane.
